Red Hat Linux Support Provides Expanded Host Platform Choices

  • CompuLert Release 6.7.1 now delivers greater platform flexibility with new Linux host support. In addition to support for Sun Solaris 2.8, CompuLert 6.7.1 can be hosted on the Linux Red Hat version 7.3 operating system, providing users with a high performance, cost effective host platform alternative.

New Web-based Remote Viewing and Access Option

  • CompuLert Release 6.7.1 now provides remote access via a standard web browser, delivering a high speed, X-Windows independent alternative to remotely control managed systems.

The new access option, termed “net access”, enables users to transparently view and remotely control both standard and graphical-based systems such as Windows NT/2000/XP, during the initial boot-up process and throughout all normal operating modes.

New Remote Power Control Option

  • CompuLert Release 6.7.1 now provides optional remote power management capabilities. The new power control feature enables users to remotely initiate a cold reboot of the managed server through the external power source, speeding server recovery and restoration of service.

The fully secure CompuLert power control facility supports IP accessible in line power switching devices, and includes capabilities to recycle the power, turn on, turn off, or cancel the power source to the managed server to trigger the desired reboot / recovery operation.

Expanded System Administration Capabilities for Centers and Entities

  • CompuLert Release 6.7.1 delivers expanded control over center and entity configuration and administration for streamlined operation and greater ease of use including:
    • Support for expanded entity names up to 20 characters, providing users the flexibility to assign meaningful entity names that best fit installation conventions.
    • New center acknowledge command, enabling authorized users to acknowledge all outstanding alarms for an entire center in one operation.
    • Expanded logging of inhibit-ma command information now includes the ID of the user entering the inhibit-ma command in addition to the date, time, entity name, and the inhibit/uninhibit message text.
    • User access permissions can now be assigned to multiple selected centers in one operation, in addition to assignment by individual entity, individual center, and globally to all centers.
    • The new op-stat-log command can now be utilized to quickly identify specific entities generating unusually high message rates, which often indicates a critical problem occuring on the entity.

Expanded Mainframe Remote Monitoring and Management Option

  • CompuLert 6.7.1 now delivers extended capabilities to remotely access managed mainframe systems in a 3270 screen mode. The expanded mainframe management option enables users to remotely interact with the mainframe as if they were directly utilizing the mainframe master console, without the necessity to physically interact with the console.
  • CompuLert 6.7.1 generates alerts and alarms based on the scrolling messages of the mainframe master console, and automatically issues replies and commands to the master console to automate host operations. In addition, CompuLert’s enhanced mainframe management capabilities enable authorized operators to remotely re-IPL managed mainframes, and remotely participate in the initialization process as if the operator were physically utilizing the mainframe master console.

Extended HP OpenView Integration Option

  • CompuLert Release 6.7.1 provides optional extended integration with the HP OpenView network management solution, enabling users to launch the CompuLert HyperMap screen directly from the standard HP OpenView Node Manager interface. The extended integration provides users with a consolidated point of control for both network and system management, and puts CompuLert’s comprehensive system access and control within easy reach of HP OpenView users.

CompuLert Extends Systems Management Across the Enterprise

Compulert logo Tone Software Corporation announced the availability of dramatically expanded system and device management facilities in the CompuLert Enterprise Management Solution.

CompuLert is deployed in many Fortune 500 computing centers to comprehensively monitor and manage distributed systems and hardware, including the legacy systems and environmental devices that escape most network management and framework products.

Now, CompuLert extends management capabilities to the far-reaching corners of the enterprise, enabling IS to monitor and control UPS devices, remote modem-accessible devices, and most notably, the rapidly increasing population of Windows NT servers rolling into many IS centers. Through powerful new CompuLert facilities, IS personnel can deploy comprehensive enterprise operations monitoring and control to all aspects of the computing environment, including:

  • Powerful Windows NT Server Management - CompuLert proactively monitors all Windows NT server activity, correlating events with overall enterprise operations, and automatically alerting key personnel of abnormal conditions or exceptions. CompuLert's unique design enables IS to directly access the managed NT system for diagnostics, problem resolution, and remote reboot from any CompuLert workstation located across the room or across the globe.
  • UPS Device Management Facilities - CompuLert now manages Uninterruptible Power Supplies, continuously monitoring UPS devices for any change of state, power level fluctuations, or low battery conditions to ensure these seldom-used but crucial devices are always operational and ready to perform at peak levels.
  • Enhanced Remote Management Capabilities - CompuLert remote system management facilities have been further expanded to support dial-up modem connectivity when standard RS232 or network TCP/IP connections are not feasible. CompuLert automatically establishes modem communication between the CompuLert host and the remote entity, enabling CompuLert to fully manage the activity and performance of the remote entity on an as needed or permanent basis.
  • Expanded Alarm Management and Diagnostics Tools - CompuLert now provides Alarm correlation facilities to automatically correlate alarm frequency, source, and content for more targeted alarm generation, enabling users to acknowledge alarms and resolve problems with greater speed and accuracy. CompuLert also offers enhanced diagnostic and troubleshooting through expanded search engine capabilities designed to instantly pinpoint event log information and further expedite problem resolution.

"As the pace of global business continues to accelerate, the demands for increased IS capacity and versatility have exponentially skyrocketed," stated Tone Software President and CEO John W. Hutchison. "CompuLert's unparalleled abilities to monitor and manage every aspect of corporate computing resources enables corporate IS to deliver topnotch service levels around the clock, while meeting budget and staffing goals which enhance the overall corporate bottom line," he concluded.

CompuLert Manages Novell Netware Servers Throughout the Enterprise

Tone Software Corporation announces the immediate availability of complete Novell Netware management capabilities through the CompuLert Enterprise Management Solution. CompuLert monitors, manages, and automates operations across distributed systems and hardware, including legacy systems and environmental devices that escape most network management and framework products.

TIS organizations invested heavily in Novell Netware to support local network computing, but the sheer quantity of deployed Netware servers now challenges IS staff to effectively maintain Netware operations and server availability. CompuLert provides IS organizations with a consolidated layer of management across all distributed Novell Netware resources to proactively monitor operations, report all exceptions, alert key personnel of potential problems, and automatically initiate corrective procedures.

NovellIS organizations can rely on CompuLert to maintain Netware operations throughout the enterprise, and should staff intervention be necessary, CompuLert's direct access design enables IS personnel to fully control Netware servers at the console keyboard level to:

  • Directly access the Netware server console for diagnostics and problem resolution from any CompuLert local or remote workstation.
  • Directly access Netware server event logs and data for historical and statistical analysis from any CompuLert local or remote workstation.
  • Reboot the Netware server, if necessary, from any CompuLert local or remote workstation, across the room or across the globe.

"CompuLert's extensive Novell Netware management capabilities provide today's IS organizations with a powerful advantage in obtaining peak performance and service levels from their Novell Netware population - as well all IS resources" stated Tone Software Corporation President and CEO, John W. Hutchison.
